FAIL: Turkey burger recipe
Posted by Matthew A. Gonzalez
Let’s get this out of the way: These turkey burgers I tried to make the other day were disgusting.
“I don’t think this one should go on Cooking Matt,” Noel said.
“No shit,” I responded.
It got Noel and me thinking though, whenever you go to a cooking blog, everything is always perfect. But who gets it right every time? No one is the answer. So I pose the question: What went wrong?
Ingredients
- 1/2 lbs. of ground turkey
- 2 oz. of finely chopped onions
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp of paprika
- 1/2 tsp of salt
- 1/2 tsp of pepper
- 1 egg whisked
- 1/3 cup of flour
What I did
- I mixed the turkey, onions, garlic, sauce, paprika, salt, pepper in a large bowl.
- I added the whisked egg to get the meat to stick together.
- I noticed the meat mixture looked watery, so I added the 1/3 cup of flower to thicken it.
- I was pretty sure this was going badly, but I decided to throw my burgers on my Foreman grill for about eight minutes.
Well, I served up my burgers on a bun, took my pictures and began to eat. For one, they were mushy as hell and obviously had too much Worcestershire sauce. I think there may have been a bit too much pepper. I’ve never really made a good burger from scratch, but this was the worst.
Well you used Turkey..

Nah man, turkey burgers are really good. Well, most are good. These were terrible.

I usually make my turkey burgers with salt, pepper, garlic, a bit of mustard, a bit of mayo (helps keep them moist), and some rosemary. Sorry, no quantities as usually i just do it without measuring :).

I’ll have to revisit this with some of your suggestions. I’ve had to take a bit of a break from cooking new stuff on account of trying to save some money.
I’ll let you know how it works out. Also, your Web site looks wonderful!
